Cochlear Implants

From Wikipedia: The cochlear implant (CI) is a surgically implanted electronic device that provides a sense of sound to a person who is profoundly or severely hard of hearing. Cochlear implants are often referred to as a bionic ear.

There are three processors that I have been considering: Cochlear Americas Nucleus 5, and Advanced Bionics Harmony and Neptune processors. In August 2010, I was intending to go with the Nucleus 5 processor. At the time, I was told Advanced Bionics was in the process of developing a new processor. The Nucleus was new still, and was well received by those who were implanted with it. I liked the features it offered. Now, I am considering the Advanced Bionics Neptune, which is waterproof and will allow me to swim with my young son. Both companies have pros and cons, both say they are the best one out there. It comes down to which one meets my needs best. On April 11 I will be selecting my implant, and I hope that I will make the right choice for myself and my family.
